Manaus Airport handled over 90,000 tons of cargo from January to October

• Of the total movement, more than 19 thousand tons were imported products;
• Export and domestic cargo contributed significantly with 35.4 thousand tons moved, while internalization reached 36.6 thousand tons;
• With the historic drought in Amazonas, Teca also sought alternative options to bring cargo from maritime to air mode. 

The Cargo Terminal (TECA) of Manaus Airport recorded a total of 91.8 thousand tons of cargo during the period from January to October 2023. Of this amount, 19.7 thousand tons are imported items.

During this period, export and domestic cargo contributed significantly with 35.4 thousand tons moved, while internalization reached 36.6 thousand tons.

In October, the Cargo Terminal of Manaus Airport maintained its strong performance, moving 11.3 thousand tons of cargo, including 2.7 thousand tons of imported products. Export and domestic cargo reached a total of 4.5 thousand tons moved.

With the historic drought in Amazonas, Teca also sought alternative options to bring cargo from maritime to air mode. 

An example of these actions, which brought innovation to the system, was the change in the traditional cargo route, known as Sea-Air. Instead of involving the route from Asia to Los Angeles by sea, from Los Angeles to Miami by land, and from Miami to Manaus by air, the new proposal changed the route to Asia-Santos, Santos-Guarulhos, and Guarulhos-Manaus.

The cargo clearance was done in Manaus, and all tax benefits related to the Manaus Free Trade Zone (ZFM) legislation were guaranteed, with the cargo being nationalized in Manaus by Declaration of Customs Transit (DTA). The new route accelerated the process by 10 to 30 days for the industries. 

The CEO of the Amazon Airports Concessionaire, Karen Strougo, highlights: “The Cargo Terminal began to conceive new routes since the beginning of the year, when we still had no idea that the drought would be historic. Now, the new proposals have become even more viable due to the current situation and for helping to deliver inputs faster so that industries can continue to meet the market demand during this period.”
