Manaus Airport Cargo Terminal conducts first tambaqui export cargo operation to the USA

- About 25 tons of Amazonian fish to Miami were transported last month;

- The Cargo Terminal has been acting as a catalyst by promoting the benefits of air export, highlighting products of socio-biodiversity;

- The shipment was carried out by the company Frigopesca, fully complying with the sanitary and regulatory requirements of Brazil and the USA.

One of the symbols of Amazonian cuisine, the tambaqui from Amazonas has started reaching the North American consumer market through a strategic route: air transport. In December of last year, the Cargo Terminal (TECA) of Manaus Airport, managed by the Concessionaire of the Airports of the Amazon, part of the VINCI Airports network, carried out the first fish export operations to the United States, destined for Miami.

In total, two trips were made during the month, carrying about 25 tons of tambaqui and other fish to the North American market. The shipment was carried out by the company Frigopesca, fully complying with the sanitary and regulatory requirements of Brazil and the USA.

The export of tambaqui reflects the efforts of the Concessionaire of the Airports of the Amazon, which since 2022 has been implementing a robust investment plan, reinforcing infrastructure and modernizing airport management. As a fundamental piece for the Manaus Free Trade Zone, the Cargo Terminal of Manaus Airport has been promoting collaboration between producers, companies, regulatory bodies, and airlines, focusing on Amazonian products with high market potential.

Workshops and other events with Amazonian entrepreneurs were held as part of the strategy to boost air exports through the Manaus terminal. Considered the third-largest cargo terminal in the country, the Manaus Airport terminal handles, on average, more than 140 tons of products per year, with a focus on the Brazilian market due to the Manaus Free Trade Zone.

 To bring Amazonian fish abroad, the work included coordination with two cold storage facilities in Manaus, which together produce about 100 tons of fish daily, in addition to technical and operational support throughout the export process. The terminal also monitored the procedures with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), ensuring that all stages were completed within the airport itself.

The Cargo Terminal Manager, Thiago Brandão, highlights: “We are very proud of this first operation, which showed that we are on the right track, with the ideal operational and technical capacity to continue connecting Amazonas more and more and fostering the local economy. The air export of Amazonian socio-biodiversity products is an example that it is possible to generate business, income, and opportunities through efficient, sustainable logistics aligned with the region's vocations.”
