Manaus Airport strengthens tourist 'air bridge' to Bogotá and the Colombian Caribbean

• The connection between the two capitals began two years ago and is now being expanded;

The Caribbean islands most visited by tourists now have even easier connections through Manaus International Airport, part of the VINCI Airports network, with new flight options for those planning to explore this and some of the main tourist destinations in South America. Initiated two years ago, the 'air bridge' between the Amazonian capital and Bogotá, the Colombian capital, promotes tourism and business. Starting this month, more flights are scheduled, also offered by Gol.

The announcement of the route expansion by the Brazilian airline took place at the beginning of March and excited regional tour operators. The first commercial flights between Manaus and Bogotá began in 2023, operated by Avianca. The connection with Bogotá facilitates access to cities with famous Caribbean beaches such as Cartagena de Indias, San Andrés, and Medellín and, on the other end, boosts trade and the arrival of foreign tourists to Brazilian territory.

According to Gol, the MAO-BOG route will also allow the connection of Amazonas with North and Central America, including destinations like San José (SJO), Mexico City (MEX), Miami (MIA), Orlando (MCO), and New York via Bogotá, due to codeshare and interline agreements established between GOL and Avianca. Once in Bogotá, it will be possible to continue to Peru and Ecuador.

The new direct flights between Manaus and Bogotá will begin on April 2, and airline tickets are already on sale on the airline's website and at travel agencies. Gol will operate two round-trip flights per week, on Wednesdays and Sundays, with a duration of 2 hours and 50 minutes for each flight.

Expansion

The expansion of the number of international flights demonstrates the strategic role of the airport for the Brazilian air sector. In 2024, Gol resumed direct flights from Manaus to Miami, in the United States, which occurs seasonally. Connecting the Amazon to Europe, TAP resumed the route linking Manaus Airport with Lisbon, which is also part of the VINCI Airport network.

This connectivity helped Amazonas record an 18.2% growth in the flow of foreign tourists in 2024, according to a survey by the Ministry of Tourism (Mtur), the Brazilian Agency for International Tourism Promotion (Embratur), and the Federal Police. Amazonian destinations received 28.4 thousand international tourists last year.
