Manaus Airport celebrates half a century of existence in a phase of growth and expansion of connectivity

- The airport emerged in the late 1970s and is the largest in the Brazilian Amazon;

- It is considered a strategic hub of the North, connecting Amazonas to 26 national and international destinations.

Considered the second largest airport terminal in the Brazilian Amazon, Manaus Airport celebrates 50 years of existence this Thursday (26). Since 2022, under the management of the Concessionária dos Aeroportos da Amazônia, part of the VINCI Airports network, the airport has undergone a process of infrastructure modernization and passenger experience improvement and is currently experiencing a period of growth, with the expansion of flight offerings, expansion of commercial operations, and records in passenger movement.

Named Eduardo Gomes, the airport of the Amazonian capital has a history intertwined with the very evolution of air connectivity in the Amazon. Inaugurated in 1976, the airport is now the largest in the Northern Region in operational capacity and plays a fundamental role in the logistics of passengers and cargo in the region, housing the third largest cargo terminal in the country.

In recent years, with the improvement plan implemented by VINCI Airports, Manaus Airport has undergone significant commercial expansion, inaugurated new national and international routes, strengthened existing routes, and recorded an increase in passenger flow. In 2025, Manaus Airport saw a 13.4% growth in passenger volume, with 3.342 million boardings and landings between January and December, the best result since the beginning of the concession. Today, Manaus Airport is considered a strategic hub of the Northern Region, connecting the state to 27 national and international destinations.

To celebrate these 50 years of existence, the airport will feature a special program with actions aimed at the entire community in the coming months, including a traveling exhibition that will narrate the memory of the fiftieth anniversary and will travel to different points of the city. The program aims to further connect the airport with the population. More details will be announced next month.
