Manaus Airport receives over 2.8 million people in 2022

• The number exceeded that recorded in 2021 by 25%
• Between October and December of last year alone, 745,000 people passed through the airport terminal

More than 2.8 million passengers passed through Manaus Airport in 2022, representing a 25% increase compared to 2021. Between October and December of last year alone, 745,000 people passed through the airport terminal, 97.3% more compared to the same period of the previous year. Manaus Airport is managed by the Concessionária dos Aeroportos da Amazônia, a member of the VINCI Airport network. 

Compared to 2019, the year before the coronavirus pandemic, passenger traffic at Manaus Airport grew by 91.9% in 2022, considering the economic recovery, which was strongly affected by the impacts of Covid-19. According to data from the VINCI Airports global traffic report, the international airport of the capital of Amazonas saw a 90.8% increase in passenger circulation in the last quarter of last year, compared to the pre-pandemic year. 

Regarding aircraft movement, Manaus Airport recorded 43,639 landings and takeoffs between January 1 and December 31, 2022, an 11% increase compared to 2021. According to VINCI Airports, from October to December of last year, Manaus Airport experienced a 92.7% increase in operations, totaling 11,083 landings and takeoffs. The number also represents a 7.5% increase compared to the same period in 2019. 

The positive result was contributed by the 10 new routes the airport gained in 2022. For the interior of Amazonas, routes to Barcelos, Apuí, Borba, Manicoré, Eirunepé, and Santa Isabel do Rio Negro were initiated. The Manaus-Eirunepé-Tefé route, which did not exist before, was created. For Pará, the municipalities of Itaituba and Porto Trombetas were also added. In December, Manaus began to be directly connected to two international destinations: Fort Lauderdale (USA) and Miami. International offerings were further strengthened in May of this year with the expansion to four weekly flights to Panama. 

The CEO of the Concessionária dos Aeroportos da Amazônia, Karen Strougo, highlights: “We want to consolidate Manaus as an important hub of the Amazon, providing other states with even more connections to national and international destinations, through strengthening partnerships with regional agencies.”
