VINCI Airports operates in 7 airports in the Amazon

With the mission of connecting people, stories, territories, and promoting positive mobility through a focus on sustainability, respect for populations, and a sense of local identity, VINCI Airports has taken over the operations of seven airports in the Amazon region, located in Manaus/AM, Tefé/AM, Tabatinga/AM, Rio Branco/AC, Cruzeiro do Sul/AC, Porto Velho/RO, and Boa Vista/RR. The terminals have become part of the Concessionária dos Aeroportos da Amazônia, a company that is part of the VINCI Airports network. In total, these seven airports received 3.6 million passengers in 2021. 

The Concession Agreement, lasting 30 years, was signed with the National Civil Aviation Agency – ANAC. The effective cooperation between the Concessionaire and Infraero made a smooth transition possible. 

During the first three years of the Concessionaire, important interventions will be carried out at the airports, focusing on customer experience, creating travel fluidity, and providing relevant offers. 

From the start of operations, an immediate action plan was structured, which includes: the review and maintenance of all systems (including refrigeration, electricity, elevators, escalators, and the baggage carousel system); replacement of conventional lighting with LED, a more sustainable technology; general repairs in restrooms; and the provision of free high-speed wifi. Specifically in the refrigeration system, the installation of air circulators to immediately improve air conditioning is highlighted. By September, the installation of new equipment with a capacity of 5 million BTUs will be completed, aiming at the well-being of passengers and employees. 

Structural works will be carried out to implement improvements to the runways and the general infrastructure of the airports, ensuring safety and operational excellence. The forecast is that the works will begin in the second half of 2022. 

Environmental initiatives 

Reducing environmental impact is one of VINCI Airports' pillars and, as has been done in Salvador, the Concessionária dos Aeroportos da Amazônia will develop suitable solutions for environmental preservation at the other airports we will now manage. These will mainly occur in four areas: reduction of carbon emissions – notably through the installation of solar plants, reduction of potable water consumption, waste management, and biodiversity preservation. 

This global plan will sustainably support the region's development, especially in Manaus, the third-largest cargo airport in Brazil, vital for the economy and communities of the Amazon region. The Manaus Airport is an economic and social development hub for the region. The CEO of Concessionária dos Aeroportos da Amazônia, Karen Strougo, emphasized that “The concessionaire will work to develop the cargo business of this platform through the optimization of its operations.”
